Vision & Mission
A school is steered by what it sets out to do. The vision and mission of Shiva International Residential School were adopted at its founding and are printed at the front of every student’s almanac, where they are read by parents and students alike at the start of each session. They are reproduced here as the School states them.
We are a community of spirited learners, committed to nurturing confident, knowledgeable and responsible individuals with strong values, preparing them to succeed as global citizens.
Our mission is to provide quality education with strong values, integrating technology, sports and the arts to nurture confident, responsible and well-rounded individuals.
The motto
The motto of the School, Mind, Knowledge, Soul, is carried on the ribbon of the crest. It names the three things the School undertakes to educate in every student, and it is the measure by which the School’s work is judged, in the classroom, on the field and in the house.
The habit of thinking clearly, of asking questions, and of working a problem through to its end.
A sound command of the subjects of the curriculum, and of the skills that go with them.
Character: honesty, courtesy, resilience, and a sense of duty to others.
Objectives
In pursuit of its vision and mission, the School has set itself the following objectives.
- To provide a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment in which every student feels valued, respected and supported.
- To encourage academic excellence through meaningful, relevant and engaging learning that enables students to realise their full potential.
- To develop creative, critical and reflective thinkers by promoting curiosity, enquiry and problem-solving applied to real situations.
- To foster resilience, independence and a growth-oriented outlook, so that students meet difficulty with effort and learn from setbacks.
- To support the whole development of each student by attending to emotional, physical, social and intellectual growth in all aspects of schooling.
- To promote ethical conduct and principled decision-making, and respect for oneself, for others and for the environment.
- To prepare students to be responsible and open-minded citizens who value cultural diversity and contribute to society.
- To build respectful relationships, founded on empathy and trust, among students, teachers, parents and the wider community.
- To provide opportunities beyond the classroom in which students explore their interests, take responsibility and learn to work with others.
- To sustain a school culture in which teaching is done with conviction, learning is a pleasure, and every student is prepared for a changing world.
These are not ornaments. They are the commitments by which the School asks to be held to account by the families who entrust their children to it.
