A Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Students,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Shiva International Residential School, whether you are joining us for the first time or returning for another year. The School is still young, but each academic year brings with it new students, new experiences and further opportunities to shape the character of the School.

Our purpose is simple. We want every student to receive a sound and balanced education, with serious attention to academic learning as well as to the many other things that contribute to a child’s development. We expect our students to work hard, to understand what they are learning, to ask questions and to develop the confidence to think for themselves.

A good education, however, cannot be measured only by examination results. Students must also learn to communicate clearly, to work with others, to take responsibility for their actions and to treat people with respect. Sport, music, art, dance, activities and everyday life in the School all have an important part to play in this. So too do punctuality, good manners, honesty and consideration for others.

We want the daily life of the School to be orderly, purposeful and happy. Teachers should know their students well, students should feel comfortable asking for help, and there should be a sense of respect between everyone who is part of the School community.

Parents also have an important role to play. A child’s education is strongest when the School and home work together, and I encourage parents to remain closely involved in their child’s progress, habits and wellbeing.

My door is always open. I hope that every student who comes to SIRS finds here the encouragement to learn well, the discipline to work hard and the confidence to make the most of the opportunities that school life provides.
