Co-curricular Activities
Much of what a student carries away from school was never on an examination paper. The School’s co-curricular programme is built on that conviction. Music, art, dance and drama are taught by staff appointed for them; every student belongs to a club; and the year is marked by assemblies, competitions, celebrations and performances in which every child, sooner or later, stands before an audience.
The morning assembly
Every school day opens with the whole School gathered for assembly: the Saraswati Vandana, the pledge, the thought for the day, the news, the notices, and, on set days, a special assembly prepared and presented by a house or a class on a theme of the day, from Earth Day to the Constitution. Assembly is where a child first learns to speak to a hall, and where the School speaks to itself.
Music, art, dance and drama
Vocal music and instrumental music are taught in the music room by two teachers of music. Art and craft, including clay modelling, poster work and painting, is taught in the art laboratory. Dance and theatre are taught for the stage, and the School’s orchestra and its dancers perform at parent-teacher meetings, at the Investiture Ceremony and at the Annual Day. In the primary classes a Talent Hunt each year gives the youngest students their first audience, in poetry, speech, singing, dancing, clay modelling and craft.
Clubs
Every student joins a club, and takes part in its activities; membership is not optional. The School runs four clubs. The Eco Club takes up conservation, biodiversity and the School’s plantation drives. The Literary Club is for reading, writing, storytelling, recitation and debate, in English and in Hindi. The Heritage Club takes up the history, culture and traditions of India. The MUN Club, under the School’s agreement with India’s International Movement to Unite Nations, trains students in research, formal debate and the drafting of resolutions, and sends delegations to IIMUN conferences; six students represented the School at Mandi in the 2025–26 session.
Competitions and events
The calendar carries inter-house and inter-class competitions through the year: debates for Classes VI to IX, the Hindi Kavi Yatra, English storytelling, poetry and speech; art, craft and poster competitions; the inter-house display board and rangoli competitions; theatre, dance and the Ad-Mad competition; and the Run for Fun and Unity. Festivals and national days are kept: Lohri, Raksha Bandhan, Navratri and Dussehra, Teachers’ Day, International Yoga Day, Independence Day and Republic Day. The year’s two great occasions are the Investiture Ceremony, at which the Student Council takes office, and the Annual Day in November, when students from every class perform on the stage before their parents.
Olympiads and enrichment
Students sit the SOF Olympiads in their subjects, and the School observes through the year the awareness weeks and days that bear on a child’s safety and wellbeing, with workshops for the primary classes and sessions for the senior ones.
