Serious Sport.
Extraordinary Setting.

Professional courts carved into the Bilaspur hillside, an on-campus shooting range that few schools in India can match, and the entire Himalayan terrain as an outdoor classroom. Sport at SIRS is not a break from the education. It is part of it.

The Sporting Life

Sport on the
Himalayan Hillside

The sporting facilities of SIRS are, by any measure, exceptional for a school of its age and location. The professional-grade basketball and tennis courts, carved into the Bilaspur hillside, sit against a backdrop of forested Himalayan ridges that creates one of the most striking sporting environments of any school in Himachal Pradesh.

Every inter-house competition is a matter of genuine pride. Cumulative sporting points earned throughout the year contribute directly to the house championship, which means every student, regardless of ability, has a reason to give their best.

“Physical activity at SIRS is an expectation, not an option. Every student participates. None sits on the sidelines.”
— School Life Programme, SIRS

Sport & the
House Championship
Every point scored on the court, on the range, and on the field counts toward the house total. The house championship is decided across three domains, academics, sport, and co-curricular, which means the student who wins the shooting competition is as valuable to their house as the student who tops the class. Sport at SIRS carries real consequence. That is what makes it real sport.
A Facility of Rare Distinction

The On-Campus
Shooting Range

The indoor shooting range at SIRS is extraordinary, a fully equipped professional range with electronic target systems, available to students on campus. Very few schools in India at any level can offer this discipline. At SIRS, it is part of the regular programme.

Shooting demands qualities that transfer to every other area of life. Students who train on the range are building something that lasts far beyond the competition.

Stillness
An absolute stillness of body, the discipline of complete physical control.
Focus
A composed and concentrated mind, the ability to shut everything else out.
Patience
Waiting for the right moment, not rushing, not forcing, but reading the situation.
Precision
Repeating the same action with the same quality, time after time. The habit of excellence.

The Himalayan Terrain
as Classroom

The natural setting of Bilaspur, the forested ridges, the rivers, the open Himalayan terrain, is understood by SIRS as an extension of the school campus. Educational tours and outdoor camps form a regular part of the school’s co-curricular programme, giving students direct experiential contact with environments that most urban children never encounter.

SIRS has already taken students to Barota and to residential outdoor camp settings, experiences that involve teamwork, physical challenge, navigation, and the kind of self-reliance that only genuine outdoor experience can build. These are not recreational add-ons. They are deliberate educational interventions designed to produce qualities of character that classroom life alone cannot.

Teamwork Under Pressure
Outdoor camps put students in situations where they must work together to solve real problems with real consequences. No classroom simulation comes close.
The Natural World
The Himalayan ecosystem, its forests, its wildlife, its terrain, becomes a subject of study and a source of awe. Students who spend time in it are changed by it.
Self-Reliance
Away from campus, away from teachers and parents, students discover what they are capable of. This discovery, made early, shapes everything that follows.
