School Terms & Assessment
A well-structured school year aligned with CBSE norms — balancing rigorous assessment with continuous learning support.
How the Year is Organised
The SIRS academic year runs from April to March, aligned with the CBSE calendar and structured to support the unique needs of our boarding community. A clear calendar rhythm helps students settle into routines, manage workload, and balance academic rigour with personal growth.
We divide the year into two terms, each with its own examination cycle and break pattern. This structure ensures that no single term feels overwhelming, while maintaining continuity and momentum in learning.
For our boarding students especially, predictable term dates and break schedules are essential to family planning, travel arrangements, and maintaining strong connections at home. The two-term system also allows for targeted remedial support and enrichment programmes between examination cycles.

“We assess to understand, not to rank. Every test at SIRS is a checkpoint — not a judgement — on every child’s learning journey.”
— SIRS Academic Head
Assessment at SIRS is fundamentally diagnostic. We test frequently so that we understand each student’s strengths, gaps, and learning patterns. This information guides our teaching — we use it to provide targeted support to students who struggle, and enrichment for those ready to move faster. Regular feedback helps students themselves understand their progress and take ownership of their learning. We believe that the goal of education is not to sort students by test scores, but to help every student grow into their potential.
