The People Who
Lead This Institution
SIRS is guided by individuals who hold, without reservation, that education is the most consequential investment any institution can make. Every decision at this school flows from that conviction.
Mr. Purushotam
Sharma
Mr. Purushotam Sharma is the founder and Managing Director of the Shiva Group of Institutions and the driving force behind Shiva International Residential School. His career in education spans nearly two decades and seven institutions, each one the first of its kind in District Bilaspur.
He began his professional life in 1995 with Shiv Drillers & Allied Traders, an ‘A-Class’ registered government contracting firm operating across Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Northeast India. The discipline and operational rigour of that work shaped the values he brought to education: a commitment to quality, a respect for community, and the patience to build something that lasts.
In 2007, he founded the Shiva Educational Society and established District Bilaspur’s first B.Ed. College. Over the following seventeen years he added six further institutions, including Himachal Pradesh’s first Postgraduate Ayurvedic Medical College in 2016, culminating in SIRS in 2024.
The Ghumarwin CBSE school established by Mr. Sharma in 2015 now serves more than 1,400 students, with alumni placed at IITs, NITs, AIIMS, and Government Medical Colleges across India. He has directed skills training for over 800 students under the DDU-GKY programme, securing national employment for more than 500 of them, and converted his hospital into Bilaspur’s first COVID Care Centre during the pandemic.
Mr. Rakesh
Kumar
Mr. Rakesh Kumar leads Shiva International Residential School with a conviction that academic rigour and genuine pastoral care are not competing priorities, they are inseparable. His approach to leadership is built on visibility, access, and accountability.
He regards the relationship between the school and the families it serves as the most important relationship the institution maintains, and he has structured his approach to the principalship accordingly. Parents who wish to speak with him will find his door open. Students who need his attention will not find themselves waiting.
Mr. Kumar holds that the quality of a school is ultimately determined by the quality of its daily routines, the assembly, the classroom, the dining hall, the evening study period, the morning run, and he gives each of these the personal attention they deserve. His conviction is that excellence, if it is to be real, must be experienced by every student on every ordinary day, not only on occasions of distinction.
